How do I use voice to talk with Pi?

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Love to chat by voice? Let’s get you set up—here’s how to turn on voice input and hear Pi clearly on any device:

📱 Android

→ Go to your phone’s Settings → Sounds and vibration → Sound, and make sure Media volume is on

→ Open Pi, tap the call button, and when asked, choose “While using the app” or “Only this time” to allow mic access

→ Tap the speaker icon (top right) to turn voice on

→ Use your volume buttons to turn up the sound—this helps Pi load the voice feature smoothly

🍎 iOS

→ Head to Settings → Pi → allow access to Microphone & Speech Recognition

→ Turn up the volume using your side buttons

→ On a Bluetooth headset? Go to Settings > Bluetooth, confirm it’s connected, and pair again if needed

💻 Web

→ In your browser, make sure the speaker icon (top right of chat) is set to Voice On

→ Check your computer’s audio settings to confirm mic and speakers are selected and working

Just a heads-up: your device needs to grant mic permission, and background noise or Do Not Disturb mode can affect things. If you’re still stuck, log a report (see how in the FAQ - How do I report a bug, share feedback, or get help with Pi? —we’ve got your back! 💙
